Raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Keith Murphy earned his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Baltimore and a master's in urban planning from the University of Maryland. Seeking to start a business, he was attracted to New Hampshire by its comparatively low tax and regulatory burden, as well as its "Live Free or Die" ethic. In 2005 he founded the NH Sports & Social Club, and two years later he opened Murphy's Taproom in Manchester, which has since
expanded from 125 seats and 19 employees to 800 seats and 95 employees. Keith won election to the NH House in 2010 and was re-elected in 2012, serving on the Ways & Means Committee and the Commerce Committee. In the House, Keith has established a reputation as a solid opponent of higher taxes and restrictions on personal and business matters. He lives in Bedford with his wife Kelleigh and their two children.
